Hello Everyone,
I am directing and producing an Independent Film. A murder mystery/comedy. We're doing it in MiniDV and editng with Final Cut Pro. It'd be great if I could get some opinions on the storyline (see website), the website and most of all on the trailer.
Please go to the site and watch the trailer (quicktime, 7mb) This is the teaser and a longer, more explanatory trailer will be posted in a while.

What do you think? Any suggestions? How would you suggest going about advertising and entering it in festivals etc?
Thanks in advance for advice and comments!!
-Perry

Hey!
Just saw you're trailer. You have some great CG skills and the shot of the pond was beautiful, very John Toll.
However I have some suggestions.
One problem is you're cutting. There were some quick shots during the kinda slow music and one REALLY long shot of a guy jumping over a bench in reverse. Music in a trailer is kind of a like a heart beat, you don't want slo mo shots for fast music and vice versa.
Also I would never show a CU of a guy getting shot IMHO especially when he occupies 99% of you're trailer. This is something you want to surprise you're audience with in the movie.
For the project in general...
I would look at you're pitch...I think one reason some aren't replying is because you pitched it as a "teen" movie. Drop that word because people are more likely to assoiciate you're film with the "teen" movies that come out of Hollywood faster than you can say Freddie Phrinz Jr.
This is not bashing, just constructive cricitism so please take this with a grain of salt...
Later,
Paul
P.S: I would like to add that StudentFilms.Com might be a good venue for you're work.

first of all, thank you for all your comments! I don't mind constructive cricitism at all, it's very helpful! the website you mentioned looks really helpful.
that is a very good point about the slow vs. fast motion with the music, i was so excited to find suitable music at all that i didn't even think to match it with the action. next time i will for sure!
about the guy getting shot, ah ha! it is meant to mislead for several reasons, he is a minor character in the actual movie so his death is inconsequential and... he's faking. still might be better to keep for later though, i see your point.
very interesting about the "teen" thing, i dropped it. to clear up for everyone who may have misunderstood:
this is a movie BY teens, not your average bad movie for teens.
thanks, perry

Thanks for the response!
Just a question is this a short or a feature?

feature!! oh yes indeed, 63 page script at 10pt! over 60 scenes, this is either a feature or a monster of a short with a 2 hour deleted scenes dvd to come with it! lol, cheers - pk

I liked it.. Good plot as well, I'm intruiged (Then again, I'm intruiged by putting carrots in the microwave, but it's good stuff nonetheless)
I agree about that reverse slow motion shot, it just doesn't sit right.
Good luck with it.

Enjoyed the trailer and decided to look around the site, how often is it updated? When will filming be complete? Intrigued also, but carrots and microwaves do not intrigue me. Can we see the script here? Please?

thanks for all the comments people!
the site is updated every few weeks (today both the cast page and the about: production progress page were updated). we will begin posting the goodies (photos from filming, behind the scenes, sound and video snippets) as soon as we have some more hosting space - which will be any day now. we're waiting for the trailer to be hosted elsewhere and free up some room. if you add yourself to the mailing list (contact page or link on main page) you'll be emailed automatically when an update worth looking at happens.
hope to have the movie done by christmas! more trailers are in the works though! as to a script, hmm. it is still a rather rough draft, makes no sense and dosn't follow any standards, lol. i'll post a scene or two sometime soon.
thanks everyone!
